Water Alarms: Keeping the Floods at Bay

As a property owner, you have a million things to worry about. You install security alarms and fire alarms, but what about water alarms? It may seem like something that would be easy to glance over, but considering the multitude of ways water can get inside your home, water alarms should be a higher priority to consider.

What Water?
Water isn’t just a problem for those who live next to body of water. It can damage your house in the form of excess rain, melting snow, rising ground water, etc. You’re especially susceptible if you live in a valley, or if you have an older home with a basement, or improperly sealed doors that let water through. But in addition to natural water sources, you have multiple appliances in your home that could be the source of a potential water issue. Washing machines, dishwashers, toilets, refrigerators/freezers and icemakers, hot water heaters, whole house humidifiers and HVAC units are all systems that should be monitored for leaks and water concerns.

How does it Work?
A water alarm monitors water leaks, flooding, damaged sump pumps, and any other unexpected water occurrences. Depending on the type of system you have, the alarm will notify you of any presence of water. A basic alarm will alert you audibly (similar to a smoke detector). You can also purchase wifi alarms, which will notify you via phone, text, or through an app, if there is a water presence in your home. This is especially useful for those who aren’t at home often, or on vacation.

Stay a Step Ahead
In addition to keeping your home safe, water alarms are a great preventative measure that could potentially save you money. Early detection of leaks and water can save you a bundle of money, before the problem gets too serious (severe water damage, mold).
Take the time and consider which option may be best for your home. It’s never too soon to protect your home and loved ones.
